Pets by Ainaa Shafirah Mustakim ( PTM150709858 )

Would you like to live a happy and productive life? I must admit it is hard to believe that domesticated animals can promote mental and physical health, but many studies have shown that they can. People who own pets have been known to lead longer and happier lives than those without them. As we get older, we become less active. The more inactive we become, the higher our risk of death. We therefore need something in our live to keep us busy so we do not die prematurely, and a pet is just the thing to do it. This is probably because of the companionship, exercise, and responsibility that they provide. On the other hand, you must find a pet that is compatible with you or with your lifestyle. Maintaining good mental health is crucial for living a normal life. Many psychiatrists have found that patients with anger management problems can be calmer with a pet around the house. Sometimes, just the feel of a pet in the house can do wonders on the nerves and eliminate certain aggravation. A significant point that has been brought up by animals right activists is that abuse inflicted on animals is, in many cases caused by frustration caused by an outside conflict. Outside conflicts can be caused by work stress, school or relationships.

It does not really matter what kind of pet you have, whether it is a cat or a dog, a fish or a ferret, an iguana or a horse. What is important is developing relationship with an animal. Having a pet often provides people with a reason for enjoying life and connecting with others. Also, people need companionship to keep stress and mental anguish at bay. When people begin questioning why they are alone, they begin doubting their own self-worth. Owning a pet serves as a wonderful way to rediscover a sense of purpose. It helps people feel needed and wanted. After all, most people cannot help but smile when their dog greets them with their tail wagging or their cat curls up cozily on their lap.

However, before buying or adopting a pet, be sure to educate yourself about the animal’s specific needs for maintaining their health and wellness. You do not want to take on more than you bargained for. Apart from that, owning a pet forces one to take on the responsibility of keeping it alive. One’s pet must be fed, watered, and keep healthy. Doing this requires us to move about. Whether one walks across the house or merely to the birdcage in the corner, said someone is moving. This small bit of motion will at least prevent muscular atrophy. Many pets will also require a walk to be happy and healthy. This gives one a steady cardiovascular workout. If a cat or dog is too expensive or needy, consider a more low-maintainance pet like a fish. If you are not ready to commit to taking an animal into your home whether it is too expensive or too much of a commitment, there are the other ways to benefit from the animal or human connection. Head into nature and look for birds or other wildlife. Another option is volunteering at an animal shelter or pet sitting for neighbours or family members who are going on vacation.

In conclusion, there are many reason owning a pet can increase one’s life span. Pets provide responsibility, exercise, and most importantly companionship. For those in fear of an early demise, remember that pets can keep you healthy and happy. Animals are calming, accepting friends that offer unconditional love and kindness, as well as many health benefits. So think about bringing a pet into your life. You would not regret it.
